My 25th high school reunion is coming up. When did I get old enough for that??? I really don't see myself going this year but I registered and filled out the online form for the memory book anyway, I just didn't purchase a ticked. Okay... yeah, so maybe it was just a chance to talk about ME. Who am I to pass that up????
So there was only two questions the form besides the basics of name and address.
Favorite High School Memory
September 6, 1986. I
had only been dating Dan Loman for a month and since he was a sophomore away at
college, I really didn't know where the relationship was going. I knew what I was hoping for though. I'd had a crush on him for two solid
years. I was still pinching myself daily
to make sure it wasn't a dream.
It was a gorgeous night for our first football game of the
year. I was riding high being a SENIOR
and all. Sitting up in the bleachers, surrounded
by my friends in the marching band, the night couldn't have been better even
with the white Barbie boots and a big white plume sticking out the the top of
my uniform hat. I didn't care, we were
having a blast cheering on the team.
Sometime during the game, of all people...Dan Loman showed
up. I was pretty darn giddy to say the
least. For the rest of the night, I had
butterflies in my stomach and a huge grin plastered across my face. Someone snapped a picture of us and to this
day, it is one of my favorite pictures.
Highlights or Interests Since Graduation
Cheesy to say but all of my childhood dreams have come
true...or almost.
I'll never be a
singer, I can't sing. As a little girl,
I knew I wanted to get married, have children, and be a teacher.
(Holy Innocents third grade class of the 1992-1993 school year on Halloween.)
Check, check and check. My teaching days are behind me now to make
way for some of the other childhood dreams.
With my big box of 64 crayola crayons, I also dreamed of one
day being an artist.
(I used a retired page kit by Rene Bross.)
Check that one off
the list too. Since 2009, I have been a senior designer at
Digital ScrapbookPlace, an online community of digital scrapbookers.
I spend a good part of many days
makingdigital scrapbook graphics.
I'm actually pretty bad
about actually scrapping for myself but I get a real kick out of seeing other
people use
the graphics that I have created to capture the moments of their lives
into books to share with generations to come.
Because of the young authors program in school and my vivid
imagination, I also spend hours as a child just pretending to be an author.
Okay, so I'm not there yet but I do get to
work with an author.
Lisa Wingate writes
wonderful woman's inspirational fiction novels.
Our friendship began with a simple fan email.
We now travel together where it is my job to
keep track of the people we meet, photograph EVERYTHING, hold the video camera,
sell the books, and sit on the couch at the end of the day and giggle about
wearing a shirt backwards. Turns out
we're two peas in a pod. Lisa encourages
me daily about getting my own stories down but I admit, I'm afraid. Looks like a whole lot of work to me. Watch for it though, it just might happen.
Some of the other way too cool things that have happened
since graduation are my two trips around the globe to China.
A girlfriend moved there due to her husband's
job and sobbing over a bottle of wine on our last night prior to her leaving, I
promised to come visit. What was I
thinking? That is a LONG flight and the
pilots don't land the plane after ten hours just so everyone can get off for
recess and run around for a while.
China
is so incredibly different but I did enjoy my time spent there.
My husband, son and I enjoy traveling the United States in
our vintage 1977 GMC motorhome (yes, the one from the movie Stripes.)
Obviously we did have a few issues but we look forward to plenty more trips.
I love my husband and son dearly but am truly thankful to
still have all of my girlfriends. The
new ones and the old ones...Mary and Sue with their matching Barbie Boots and
big feather plumes were cheering on the football team that warm September night
all those years ago, and I am thrilled to say that they are right here with me
now as we cheer on new events in our lives and make more memories to cherish.
So that is how I answered the those two questions...minus all of the way cool pictures of course. Okay, enough talking about myself. Not that it wasn't fun and all but I do need to get to making up graphics today.
